FRIDAY NIGHT PINK

I have been trying to get things in order for when I start treatment. This is not too easy. I have all sorts of pains. My leg where the phlebitis is causing my knee to swell and my hip is really sore. I haven't done anything to cause this. I have done exactly what the doctor said, took my medicine, but it seems worse. It is difficult to write much when you are not feeling well. I was thinking the other day that this last surgery was my fourteenth surgery. I guess it takes a little longer to bounce back after surgery at my age.

I have been working on the Music website for church some. It is a strange program and there is a little learning curve. I really should take a class. I also decided to help with the Hispanic Ministry and create a website for them. That will be mainly cut and paste since I don't speak Spanish. Although I can read some.

I was talking with my mother today. My sister, Cindy, will be going to her house to stay with her while she has her lens replaced in her eye. I am so glad that someone will be there with her. I will either be in chemo or radiation so I can't go.

I have received so many beautiful cards. I just love them. I look through them each day. Yesterday, after breakfast, I sat down and started writing notes. I don't think it ever really hit me before what a powerful impact they have on people. Just think, someone thought enough of you to spend their time, write a compassionate note, address an envelop, place a stamp on it and make sure the postman gets it. That is so much nicer than an email, or phone call. So, I wrote a few thank you cards, a few sympathy cards, some get well cards, and a few birthday cards. Ray was shocked. He knows that I hate snail mail. This morning, I had more. Go figure. Now that I have time, why shouldn't I brighten someone else's day.

AFTER DINNER PINK

I went to dinner at church tonight. It was wonderful, as always: thin-sliced pork, macaroni & cheese, baked apples, salad, and ice cream sandwich. But, the most important element of the evening is the fellowship. I just love being there. I went to the library and saw Betty and purchased new Open Windows Devotional Book for me and Dot. It helps keep me grounded. It has Read the Bible in a Year in it. It teaches discipline.

So many people spoke to me tonight that I don't normally speak to. I got hugs and everyone seems to be praying for me. Judy and Marc were there. I am probably going to join her circle group. I didn't realize that yesterday was the day they met, so I have a month to decide.

I found the information that Dr. McKenna was talking about. Genomic Health (http://www.genomichealth.com/) actually sent me a brochure on the Oncotype DX test (http://www.oncotypedx.com/). It is a diagnostic test that helps identify which women with early-stage, estrogen receptor-positive and lymph node-negative breast cancer are more likely to benefit from adding chemotherapy to their hormone treatment. The test also helps individual woman understand the likelihood of having her breast cancer return. It is the diagnostic test that involved sending a part of the tumor off after my surgery. Unfortunately, it hasn't come back yet. I have another appointment with Dr. McKenna on the 9th. The radiation was supposed to start on the 10th, but if it is decided to do chemo, then it will be put off for 25 weeks while I do chemo. So, you see, I really need all the prayers I can right now. I really don't want to do chemo.

Prayer Warriors unite! I need you now!
Lord, I pray for your goodness, for your mercy, help those who are in want in these difficult times. Be with our country, our state, our city, our homes in all that we do. No matter what happens Lord, most of us love you. Help those who don't know you to open their eyes to your love. We ask your forgiveness for our transgressions. Keep us safe so that we may serve you, Lord. We ask these things in your Son's precious name, Amen.

RELAY FOR LIFE PINK

The Relay for Life Team for First Baptist will be meeting after church on March 1 to discuss the "Shop for the Cure" on March 7 at FBC. I will put more in about it when I know more.

Not much going on so far. Feeling a little shaky this morning. There is church dinner and Bible study tonight. I am planning on attending. I really miss it when I cannot go. More later. I am having writer's block this morning.

ONCOLOGIST PINK?

I saw Dr McKenna today (oncologist). He had the results from the MRI I had Friday, but not the results from the test they had to send off for the OnCo Type test (?). The results from the tests so far are alright.

The 87% chance of living 10 more years he told me last time was good, but the not so good thing that he told me today was that I have a 72% chance of having a recurrence in ten years. It kinds of depends on this other test. It is an extensive testing of the tissue they removed during surgery. I see him again on Mar 9, the day before I go to start radiation. If we decide to do chemo, we will put off the radiation until it is done. Chemo would be 25 weeks and then 6 weeks radiation, then hormone therapy.

Oncotype test is what he called the test. I am going to look it up and do a little more research on the American Cancer Society (http://www.americancancersociety.org/) website tomorrow.

I am meeting with Dennis and Beverly to discuss a web page for the FBCNN Music Ministry on our Church website at 12:15 Tuesday. I have some ideas and a reasonable knowledge of the site. Bev sent me some things that are coming up in the near future that I can incorporate in the site. (http://www.fbcnn.org/) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Dear Lord, Protect us all today. I love you, Lord, Amen

OVERWHELMING PINK

Sunday, February 23, was an awesome day. I woke feeling better, even though my leg was giving me a problem. I took some Tylenol and went to church anyway. Since I am the fearless leader of the Welcome & Greeting Committee, I was in the perfect spot to see most everyone. I have never received so many hugs and people saying that they were praying for me. The overwhelming feeling of love that I felt was almost too much for my poor head to fathom.

One of the things that made a lasting impression was the number of women telling me that they had been through the same thing and most were over 10 years ago. They were so supportive and I wondered how I didn't know this. After talking with a friend, I find that most of the women didn't want anyone to know they had Breast Cancer. I guess that they feel that it was a private thing that no one else should know. I think some of the shock and horror that you feel when you get this diagnosis would be overcome if you could realize that you weren's alone. Personally seeing Robin Roberts on Good Morning America was a real inspiration to me. She gave me real hope from the beginning. I appreciate her candor all through her illness. Even though I won't have to do chemo, she was still an inspiration.

I sent Robin the following: "Robin was a real inspiration for me, since I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January. I had surgery on January 28 and am facing radiation starting March 10. Every morning, I see Robin and say to myself "You can make it too". I even started a blog called Thoughts of Pink" (http://barbara-duke.blogspot.com/) in the effort to keep all my friend updated on my progress and help them to realize that they need to get their mammograms every time they are available. Thank you so much Robin for helping to ease this very difficult journey. "

Ray and I went to Cheddars for lunch. I had some of their wonderful Baked Potato Soup and a house salad, with one of their awesome croissants with honey butter. I ate the soup and roll, but brought the salad home for dinner. It was just fine (with added onions). Their blue cheese dressing is to die for; there were large chunks of cheese in it.

We had a quiet afternoon. On the way home, Ray went into COSTCO for milk and "Skinny Cows." (my favorite ice cream sandwich). I will work on the church website in the morning. I have an appointment with the doctor at the Riverside Cancer Center on Monday.

I did talk to my mother in Kentucky. She said it was snowing there. She is having one of her eyes redone. The lens has a slight fold in it and has to be replaced. Mother had it done at the University of Kentucky Hospital and her doctor was highly recommended. The problem was her doctor was not the one who did the surgery, it was a resident. Mother thinks that she surprised them when she recognized him when she went back in.

She has been dealing with this problem for a year now. I am so glad that she is going to get it fixed. She is an artist and she cannot see well. I think sometimes that doctors treat older people different because they think that older people don't have anything to contribute any longer. My mother loves to draw, paint, garden, sew, and decorate.

Mother is the proverbial "Jack of all Trades." She is the mother of five, grandmother of eleven, great-grandmother of seven. She has a lot to contribute and she feels like a year of her life was wasted with this problem. I am go glad they are going to fix it. It shouldn't cost her anything, and I don't think they should charge. It has been so stressful for her. I have tried to talk with her as much as I can; I seem to be able to make her laugh. I love her so much and I really hate it that she had to go through this, especially since I was the one who urged her to do to have the surgery since I had gone through it in 2004. Although, my doctor, Dr. Hauser Weiler, in Kilmarnick is a former District Governor for the Lions Club and highly recommended. I have to drive almost an hour to see him, but being able to see is surely worth it.

TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT - http://www.heartlight.org/ February 22, 2009 VERSE: And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. -- Hebrews 10:24,25 http://www.searchgodsword.org/desk/?query=Hebrews+10:24,250:24,25

THOUGHT: We need each other. We cannot make it on our own. God calls us to get together regularly to encourage and to motivate each other to live vibrant lives of service and faith. With the day of Jesus' return and our ultimate victory on the horizon, we should be motivated even more to help and to encourage each other.

PRAYER: Lord God, thank you for giving me a Christian family to encourage me and motivate me to serve others. Please use me to bless others when we gather in Jesus' name to praise you. In the name of the Lord Jesus I pray. Amen.

PARLIAMENTARY PINK

Today was better. I got up, got dressed and went to the Hampton Library with Ray. He taught a Parliamentary Procedures class this morning at our Peninsula Unit Parliamentary Workshop(http://parliamentarians.org/). I ran the computer and the PowerPoint slideshow. At least, I could sit there with my leg up and change files when needed. It turned out very well, there were over 30 people attending. I might even have learned a thing or two.

Dot and Bob Tolbert, friends from Lions Club, were there they are also members of the unit. Dot has had a lot of health issues over the past year and has been on my prayer list often. We had lunch there with Subway (http://www.subway.com/subwayroot/index.aspx ) turkey subs and Chips. Coffee was brought from Krispi Kreme along with some scrumptious donuts of all kinds. We even brought a sub home for Ray for dinner since I wasn't cooking. Ray went to KFC last night and got him a 3-piece chicken dinner and a potato bowl for me and I ate the other half tonight. That is the longest I have been out of the house in a while. I am really tired and can hardly keep my eyes open. All this sitting around is driving me nuts.

Dot said that I won something at the GFWC (http://www.gfwc.org/) Woman's Club Art Show yesterday. I didn't feel well enough to go. I guess I will call Peggy and pick up my art on Monday or whenever it is convenient for her.

"To Know Christ and Make Him Known"
The picture is one that I did in Paint on the computer. The title is actually in the picture. It is the motto for First Baptist Church. I enjoy working on the computer too.
Time for bed. I haven't even checked my email yet. I dozed all evening.
TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/ February 21, 2009
VERSE: Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him! -- Isaiah 30:18 http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Isaiah+30:18
THOUGHT: God is slow to exercise His justice when that justice demands His people's punishment. "Gracious and slow to anger" is a phrase repeatedly used to describe God in the Old Testament. God longs to be gracious and bless His people. He extends time for us to repent and turn to him. In Jesus, God even gives us His own Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Let's hear the heart of God and respond by turning our lives and our hearts to the God who longs for us.
PRAYER: Almighty God and Abba Father, how can I ever thank you for yourlove and mercy demonstrated in the sacrifice of your Son for mysin. Please forgive me for those times that I have notintentionally and wholeheartedly shown my appreciation for yourgrace in the way I live my life. Please perfect me by your Spiritjust as you have forgiven me and cleansed me by your grace. In Jesus' name. Amen.

NO PINK THOUGHTS TODAY!

Thirty-six years ago today, my son, Jeff was born in North Carolina. He was such a cute baby and was alway good too. We lived there until he was about a year old and then we moved to Texas for a while. He is handsome, smart, and loves God. GOD IS GOOD! ALL THE TIME! The picture at the right was taken on Christmas day after assisting Santa Claus all night in putting thing together. It was a great Christmas. Below, you can see Jeff
playing on Garrett's DS. Jeff is a good uncle. He plays with both of the twins, Garret & Taylor, like he is one of them and they love him dearly.
Garrett & Taylor in their Christmas Cookie Baking Hats. What fun we have! Next time we go down we will take a picture of the wall they are painting. Garrett is taking Karate and Taylor is taking Tap dance.

Ray is conducting a Parliamentary Workshop at the Hampton Library on Saturday. He is a Professional Registered Parliamentarian. We became involved in the National Association of Parliamentarians about 17 years ago in Virginia Beach. We both enjoy it but he decided to study more than I did. The tests are mind-boggling. I love being able to control a meeting so you can get home on time, but I hate tests. Ray is now the Parliamentarian for our Church, the Baptist General Association of Virginia, Newport News Host Lions Club, District 24-D of the Lions Club and the State Parliamentarian for the 5 Lions Districts in Virginia. He knows his business. He has been looking into working for some other organizations (i.e., businesses, churches, non-profits). It can be a profitable venture if you are very good. One of the members in the VA Beach Unit was the parliamentarian for the Syncronized Swim Team for the Olympic Committee. It is very interesting and certainly keeps your brain working.

Ray at Christmas. Handsome, wonderful man that he is. I love him dearly. Ray has quite a testimony from 1999 when he had Guillian-Barre Syndrome after having nose surgery. He is 100% now and that is unusual. It usually leave some residual affects.

Time to Say Goodnight and do my Devotions. GOD is GOOD, ALL the TIME!!!!

John 15:4-5 (New International Version)
4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

OUT OF PINK FUNK

Released by the surgeon! I did have to go have a ultra-sound on my leg for the phlebitis. No deep veined clots, all superficial. YEAH! I still have to sit with my leg propped up until they go away, but so much better.

I have been trying to make sense out of AdSense for 2 days. I still don't think I know how to do it and would appreciate any help I can get if you know someone who knows how. I have also been helping Beverly Parker set up a Music Ministry Website for FBCNN. That is fun. I am learning a lot of new things. At least I have something to do while I am recuperating.

Do you do FaceBook? I am having fun with it. It has given me a chance to meet and get to know people that I have seen at church but didn't really know. Why people would want to put down
what they do in short sentences during the day. It could be addictive. I know that blogging is.

If I can make a small difference in someone's life, it would be great. A difference for good, of course. I have enjoyed various non-professional groups I have been involved in and I see this blog as a ministry of sorts.

Tomorrow is a busy day. I entered some of my artwork in an art contest at the Woman's Club. There is an event there tomorrow. I think they will announce the winners. I don't really expect to win anything, but the feeling of just entering is great. One is the Jamican Lady that you see next to the flowers on the desk in a picture down further in the blog. Wish me luck!

PINK FUNK

Today is my appointment with Dr. Hopson. I am really dreading it. Everytime I see him, he says the "c" word. I almost wish he didn't get the result from the MRI I had last Friday. Prayer Warriors, Unite!

Cresenti Williams called me this morning. She has moved to VA Beach and we really miss her. Her day off changed from Wed to Thu and she is no longer at church for dinner on Wed. She made it to choir practice last night and Ray told her to give me a call. She is a manager at JC Penney. I never realized how hard that kind of job could be. She seems to work all the time. We have been trying to get something going so she can retire. (3 more years) She is such a wonderful Christian woman. She could be a great motivational speaker or teacher.

I will add more when I get home. Love to all, Barbara

PAST THOUGHTS OF PINK

Good Day! A Big Happy Birthday to my beautiful and talented daughter Rhonda. (Shown in picture with Taylor-Rhonda on Right!) Rhonda has been a real trooper with me during this illness. It seems like she always calls just when I need it. She has been so supportive and not just a daughter, but a friend also. She has a big part of my heart.

Not feeling as good as I would like. I am so sick today. I must have the creeping crud that everyone else has had. I am always late getting anything later than most. My defenses must be down with all this illness. Or, I am getting cabin fever.

I thought I would take you back to 2004 today, when I wrote the following:

WHAT IS RIGHT?
There are so many things in this world that are wrong, I thought it might be nice to talk about what is right. Some things that come to mind are caring for others, politeness, generosity with our resources, giving of our time, telling others about Christ. . . .

What does caring for others mean? Just what it says; you should put others “needs” before your wants. If there are things that you want and you feel that you deserve them, take a look around and see those that are in need. What are their needs: food, clothing, medicine? Could we, in good conscience buy something frivolous, when we see so many others in need? It seems to me this is part of what Christianity is all about, looking out for our brothers and sisters, not only in Christ, but in humanity.

Does it hurt to be polite to others? No! As a matter of fact, it gives us joy when we see the smile on their face or even the wonder in their eyes that someone could be kind to them. Do we do things for people to see us like Christ? We can only hope that the walk that we have with Christ is evident in every step we take. Do we keep an eye out for others? A mother struggling with children and trying to put groceries on the check-out stand, a handicap person who needs some help maneuvering their way around, a person who inadvertently cuts us off in traffic, a person who says something unkind to us. . .. I could go on and on. There are so many ways to help others by being polite. Polite is a wonderful, joyous word, and when used by Christians, becomes even more significant.

Does it hurt us to be generous? I don’t think so. It comes back to us in so many ways. As Christians, we know we should tithe to our church, but do we? There are so many that don’t tithe because they say they can’t afford to, but, can they afford not to? We need to remember that the tithe is not ours in the first place. All we have belongs to God and he just wants to keep ten per cent. In addition to our tithes, there should also be offerings. These are the special needs of certain missions and are equally important to the Lord. These give you even more joy than tithing. The smile on a child’s face when they receive a scholarship to a children’s camp, food, clothing, new glasses to help them with school, or when there are plenty of resources to help them learn about Christ.

Does it hurt us to give of our time? We have a short time on this earth, but Christians know that we have the rest of eternity with the Lord. Why not give of our time while we are here on this planet to make sure that others join us in the hereafter? The old adage about that says “You can’t take it with you” does not hold out for Christians. We can take our relatives, our friends, and strangers to heaven with us, if we just expend the effort to do so. Pass out a tract, speak with someone about Christ, or show them our walk with Christ by example. Is there someone who needs a ride to the doctor, church, or to the store? Give our time here and now and our reward will be later. We not only need our church to be an equipping center, we need to be equipping centers on our own. We can take as many people as we want to Heaven. Christ will welcome as many as will come.

There are those who have rejected Christ and there may be no hope for them, but we don’t know. Only the Father knows for sure. Everything must be explained to them to ensure that they have the opportunity to see Christ as Christians see Him. The Holy Spirit needs to work in our lives and if we let the Holy Spirit guide us, He will. He will show us the way to conduct our lives and to guide others to Christ, our gentle, loving Savior. That is what is right.
- Barbara P. Duke, Deacon

That was a very special time for me. It was the first time I think I completely realized how much control of our lives we need to give to God - All of it! As I have said before "GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME!" Even when we are going through dark times, the Light is always there to show us the Way. We have to take those times and learn from them, use them to reflect on the good things that God has given us. We learn to be faithful, true, and have integrity in everything we do.

I have learned over my life that there is nothing that I fear or dislike more than a lie. Lies have destroyed so many lives. If you think back to things in your life that didn't turn out well, you can always find a lie (Satan) at the bottom of it. Somewhere, someone told a lie thinking it was perhaps a "white" lie to keep from hurting someone or making themselves look bad. Over the course of time, a "white" lie becomes a cancer as it is added to and told over and over, until your life is like a pit. Well, I am out of the pit, I accept no lies, nor do I want to spread them. I have learned to cut out the "liars" in my life. I am a forgiving person, but even I have my limits. I may forgive 70x7 but I don't forget.

I guess it is time to get off my soapbox. I am getting antsy. You can only read so much or watch so much TV.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog. Please comment if you so choose. I will going back to see the surgeon tomorrow.
Yours in Christ, Barbara

MONDAY PINK - BEAUTIFUL DAY

Dear Readers,

I hope you are enjoying the life and times of Barbara Duke! Subscribe to the blog and you will get emails when updated.

There was a phone call from my sister, Cindy, last night. I was so happy to hear from her. I was 12 years old when she was born and she almost feels like my child. She was such a sweet, but headstrong little girl. She hasn't changed much except that now she is a Ci-Ci (Grandmother). And, a beautiful one I might add. She has fallen in love with the beautiful little boy (Karch) that Heather and Jason have birthed. We have not always been close, but I really don't think it was our fault. We just have different views of life. We are both mellowing and I think that from now on we can be close. Cindy has two wonderful boys also, Christopher and Noah.

Cindy and Karch!

I think we decided to discount the opinions of others and just admit that we love each other and to go from there. I know she has faith in God and I would like to discuss this at length with her. I want to know her better. She has matured into a lovely woman. I have spoken to Cindy on occasion and I know she is a confessing Christian. I am glad of that. Things here on this Earth do not mean much if we can't spend Eternity with Christ and those we love. What a lovely family.
Heather, Karch, & Jason!

I feel so fortunate to have such a wonderful family. There is Sonny, my older brother, and his wife, Pat. They have two sons, Jeremy & Bryan. Bryan is married to Jamie and they have two little boys, Wyatt and Owen.
There is Jan, who is married to Woody. They have two daughters, Heather & Erica, who between them have five little girls. More about them later.
Ray went to our Lions meeting at Terry's tonight. I just didn't feel well enough to make it. I guess I will go to bed early. I am cold all the time. At least the bed has an electric warmer on it.
Some students are coming from CNU in the morning at 10 for an interview about our Lions Club.
Devotions to follow. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!

PALE PINK

One of the best things that happened yesterday was I got a phone call from Kathryn Oder. She is in Bluefield. She called to pray for me. She is such a sweet girl with a heart for God. She and Jason are on my pray list each day. They will be getting married soon and they are praying for guidance to see which way their future will go.

My favorite DJ!

It is Sunday, here in God's world. It is a beautiful day, although cold. We had a very nice time last night at the District 24-D Governor's Ball. It was at the Patriot Inn in Williamsburg. One of these days they are going to update that Holiday Inn. It still has the same carpet they had the first time I went there, over 14 years ago. One thing we like about their ballroom is that they actually have one. Some of the newer hotels have a ballroom which is really a dining room with a wooden portable dancefloor, which is a horror to dancers and not so nice for the DJ either since they usually butt it up to the point where we have to put our DJ table. So then we get people bumping the equipment when they are trying to dance.

Last night was great because they actually have a stage area above the dance floor. We don't have a set program. Ray is good at reading the audience, but you inevitably get people who are trying to play "Stump the DJ!" They seem to come up about half way through the dance and want to hear something that is 40 years old and was never a dance tune to begin with. We try to accomodate, but it is difficult sometimes. We play their song and even they realize they can't dance to it.

There was a group from New Kent County who are called the "New Kent Stagehands" that sang showtunes for the pre-dance entertainment. They were a lot of fun and everyone seemed to enjoy them. Dinner was average, I guess. It was a buffett and I really dislike buffets. People get way more than they can eat and then get upset when there is not enough for everyone. They had to end up bringing out extra salad and chicken wings. I personnally think that buffetts should be banned. They are a big contributing factor in obesity in this county. Not to mention, not very hygenic.

I was not able to dance because of phlebitis, but I had a nice time. I slept all afternoon when Ray went to the cabinet meeting. It was so nice seeing everyone. Some people we only see at Lions functions quarterly. PDG Debbie Ivey came up and sang for us. She sang "Sweet Dreams" and "Crazy." She is still as good as always. Ray sang "My Way" in honor of PID "Moon" Kosjer. (His memorial is February 28th at a place to be determined.)

Lion Darlene and District Governor Lion Doug Mueller. They gave us a box of chocolate. Isn't that nice. It was a privilege to play for their Governor's Ball.

Below is the Vice District Governor, Gary Rapier and his lovely wife, Renee.

We sat at the table with old friends, Past District Governor, Lion Bob Tolbert and his wife, Dot. Dot is also in the Women's Club of Newport News. She used to be the parliamentarian, but now I am.

To the left is a picture of Lion Donna Weiler and me. Donna will be running for Vice District Governor soon! I love her. She has such an organizational mind and really gets things done. She will make a truly great District Governor. Her husband, PCC (Past Council Chairman) Lion Dr. Hauser Weiler was a great District Governor and then Council Chairman for the State of VA. They love to travel to the Lions International Conventions.

Ray and I will be playing at the Women's Club of Newport News on February 28th for their Mardi Gras Ball. The dance will be held at the clubhouse across from Riverside Hospital from 6-11 p.m.. There will be hor'doerves and addtional entertainment by the Heritage High School Jazz Ensemble. New Orleans Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. There will be dancing and a Silent Auction. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling Gayle Haley at 244-4838. This dance is a benefit for the Peninsula Food Bank.

We made it home today by 11:00. There was a breakfast buffett at the Patriot for the Lions. It was everything you could possible want for breakfast, but I just couldn't keep it down. We made it home and here I am blogging. Ray is watching the Races. I really missed church this morning, but I was fortunate enough to hear Dr. David Jeremiah while I was getting dressed this morning. He is teaching on Muslims and what they believe. Then Dr. John Maxwell was on Live from Liberty. Both are wonderful preachers. I am looking forward to Charles Stanley tonight. I didn't sleep well last night so I will take a nap now. The pale pink today is me. I feel sickly. I hardly ever feel this way.

Yours in Christ, Barbara

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (New American Standard Bible)

A Thorn in the Flesh 7Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me--to keep me from exalting myself!

8Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me.
9And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness " Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

10Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

VALENTINE PINK

Good Morning,

My friend Debbie took me to get my MRI yesterday. They had to give me something so I would not freak out. I have had about 6 or 7 MRI's over the years but never one when I was laying on my stomach. It made it easier I think.

Later when Ray came home, we went to the Lunch Bell for an early dinner. We had a large bowl of New England Clam Chowder. It was the best chowder. When we got home, I went to sleep for a couple of hours. I guess that was the effect of the nerve pills they gave me for the MRI.

We are going to Williamsburg this afternoon. The Lions' District 24-D Governor's Ball is tonight. We are DJing but I guess I will spend time with my leg propped up while Ray DJs. Past District Governor, Debbie Ivey, has said that she will help out taking pictures. She used to sing in a band so she sings some when she can. She can do an awesome take on Patsy Cline. She is now a Loan Officer at a Bank in New Kent. She and Lion Dave just built a house up there on the water. I can't wait to go see it.

I have been on facebook a lot lately. It is so amazing to see what some people are doing with their lives. It is funny how some people cannot seem to find anything to say except how exhausted they are. I would think it would be a place to encourage others and be positive. Of course, my mother always said I never met a stranger. I think that Facebook can be used for so may positive things.

Debbie brought a book with her yesterday that really looked interesting. It turns out to be the Outlander series by Diana Galbadon. I bought myself a Kindle from Amazon.com for my retirement. While I was waiting for the MRI, I ordered the series and they loaded onto my Kindle. They were about $6.32 per book. I really love my Kindle. Our house is small and getting crowded with all the books. With the Kindle, I can carry it in my purse and read it anytime. It will hold over 200 books. I actually have 3 versions of the Bible on mine. The books are also a lot cheaper than regular books. There is not charge for the Whisper Network and you are always connected. If you have g-mail address, you can even receive email on the Kindle. It has a lot of great features. I am so excited. They are coming out with the Kindle II shortly. I don't see me buying another one this soon, but I hear it will hold 1500 books. Isn't that amazing!
I guess I better get moving and pack my bag for tonight.

Love to all, Have a great day in the Lord!

SHADES OF PINK

There is just not enough going on. This morning I woke up with plebitis in my leg. It is swollen, red, hot, and painful. I called and will see the doctor this afternoon at 3. I had to quit taking blood thinners when I had surgery so I guess this is what happens. I am taking them again. I imagine the doctor will send me to Riverside for an ultrasound.

The worst thing is, it is a beautiful day and I would rather be weeding than sitting here with my foot propped up. Maybe I will get my artwork out and try it when I get back from the doctor. Too bad I can't clean house with my leg propped. I will update later.

Just remember, God is Good, All the Time!

ONGOING PINK

Well! Radiologist today. Dr. Layzer says that I will have to go through 28 days of radiation therapy, but that won't start until the middle of March. I need more time to heal. It was a nice office in the Riverside Cancer Center. I sure was wishing that it was the first and last time I was going to see it. Turns out I get a card with my picture on it to scan each time I go in and have a treatment. I even got my picture taken today. Dr. Lazer was very patient and explained everything to me. They gave me a notebook full of phamplets to read. The nurse was very sweet and we really hit it off. Both of us could talk down any hostage situation.

I called mother before I got home. I think she was a little upset because I had to do the radiation, but I am just grateful I didn't have to do the Chemotherapy. Of course, I always look on the bright side. There I go with the 3/4 cup full again.

Wednesday night dinner at church was great. There was beef tips and rice, with carrots and peas. It was nice to be back. Kitty Turner was the only one who rode with me tonight. Dot Riley had guests for dinner so she couldn't go with us. Judy & Marc Gatlin were there with us for dinner, but they left soon afterward.
Ray had to go to the Lions Eye Bank Board Meeting at Norfolk General. Jim, Jocelyn, and Johnny ate with us. Everyone was so supportive and gave me big hugs. They were all so loving. It was so good to be there again; missing two weeks is not good. They have all been praying for me. I thank the Lord every day for my wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ. I went down to the Children's Wing and saw Susie Webb about working on the children's website. Someone had left a present for me but she would not tell me who it was. She made me open it and it was a small silver cross. That was so sweet, but I cannot imagine who it was.

We are going to be at the Governor's Ball this weekend in Williamsburg. The District has booked us a room at the hotel since we are donating our DJ services for the dance. We have done this for quite a few years now. It is something we really enjoy and the District saves a lot of money that can be used in other areas. Ray is also the District and State Parliamentarian for VA. That means that we get to go to the State Convention every May. I really wanted to go to the USA/Canada forum in Memphis, but it looks like we won't make it this year. It is in Memphis and it would have been a great trip.

I spoke to my son in NC and he is sick with a cold. I gave him a bottle of XanGo and he hasn't drank it yet. I have not had a cold since I have been drinking it or a sinus infection, neither has Rhonda. He has to go to work in the morning, so he has to get better soon.

My sister, Linda called today. She was checking up on me. She is very special. We have always had a connection, even when we didn't see each other for long periods. We just slip back into that comfortable mode of communication and make each other laugh. Laughter can be the best medicine sometimes. She invited us to come down for a visit when all this is over. We might just take her up on it.

Ray just came in; he went to the dedication of the new Lions Medical Eye Bank & Hearing Research Center of Eastern Virginia in Norfolk. It was dedicated to Lion Edward "Moon" Kosjer, PID (Past International Director of Lions Clubs International). In 1978, Lions District 24-D voted to establish an independent eye bank in Norfolk. The first Executive Director was Lion "Moon" Kosjer, and the Medical Director was Bruce I. Bodner, MD. Over the past 30 years, more than 18,000 corneas and ocular tissue grafts have been provide for transplant from Tidewater Region donors. Today was the celebration of the fortitude and vision of a man who, along with the partners at Sentara Healthcare and Lions District 24-D, has made an indelible mark on history of eye care and sight restoration in Virginia, the United States, and around the world. The new Lions Medical Eye Bank Facility at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is the culmination of hope for patients and health care professionals and a dream realized for a man we all love.

Just after the ceremony, news came from the hospital that Lion "Moon" had passed away. He had been very ill for a very long time, but had come to most meetings except this one. They had given out pins with his name and the date of 11 February 2009 on the lapel pins. I am sure that Lion Moon is looking down with a smile on his lips and God is saying "Well done, my good and faithful servant." We will miss this wonderful man. He was one of the first men I met on the District Board and he always had a smile and a hug for me.

The picture is Past International President, Lion Jimmy Ross, Lion Barbara Duke, & and our own Past International Director, Lion Robert "Moon" Kosjer.
Devotions to be done.

HEALING PINK

This has been a strange day. I just know that I am going to be alright now, but it is hard to let it sink in. I woke up early to read Romans 12 again. I sat up and watched Joyce Meyer with Dr. Maxwell's second show. Both have a such a heart for God, it is a joy to listen to their words. I have most of Dr. Maxwell's books. He speaks at conventions for the National Companies and they send one of his messages on CD almost every month. I think that is what I like about network marketing, thinks are spoken with positivity. Most of the people that I have met in marketing are really nice. I didn't have such a good opinion of sales people until I met a few personally. They are just like you and me. Just trying to make a living honestly. So far, I only met one that was questionable and the National Companies fired him as soon as they got wind of his practices. I am hoping that next week I will be able to get back to business.

My sister, Jan, just retired from the phone company. She is going to sell Medicare supplement insurance. Just can't hang around the house. I know what she means. I need to get going in Ray's business so that I can focus better. XanGo is calling me. I have been drinking a half a bottle a day since I found the lump. I can't help but think that the Lord led me on this path to help me learn how to live a more healthy life and to keep the cancer contained. It was contained and had not metastisized. The Xanthones at work on the inflamation.

Ray and I had a healthy antidoxident dinner tonight. I went to Food Lion and bought some very lean pork and cooked it with olive oil, onions, broccoli, brussel sprouts, green peas, shredded cabbage, carrots, and a little soy sauce. When it was done I mixed in cooked penne pasta. It was awesome. We have enough for Thursday night. I made chicken salad today with pecans, onions, cheddar cheese, and Vidalia Onion dressing/w mayonaise. I don't make it too wet so there is not so many calories. I found out watching Rachael Ray that brussel sprouts are loaded with antioxidents. Ray and I love them. We are committed to eating more green vegetables.

There haven't been too many people that I talked with today. It is almost like I want to wait until I hear everything. The MRI is not until Friday and when I see Dr. McKenna again in two weeks, I hope to be feeling so good that I can dance when he tells me I am all better.
I have been emailing Bev Parker about helping with a website for the music department at FBCNN. Sounds like fun to me. Ray is a wonderful singer, but I can't even carry a note in the shower. This would be a good opportunity for me to help out.

I have been retired from the Department of Defense over four months and my pay still is not straight. The payroll department always did a great job for active employees. I really didn't expect to get this kind of treatment. I even filed my retirement 2 months early so they would have plenty of time. The upshot is, if you are planning on retiring, Have at least 6 months to 1 years's income set aside so you can still live normally. I am fortunate that Ray is retired military, on Social Security, and he has his own business so we are fine. I just pity the poor person who doesn't have an additional income.

I actually retired with the thought in mind that the Lord will provide. I am still certain He will. I love being here with Ray more and as soon as I feel better, I am going to be getting out some more.

Dear Lord, Thank you for the beautiful day today and for each tomorrow. Let us be still in your Glory, Lord. Forgive us our sins, forgive those who have sinned against us. Keep the temptations of life at bay, so that our hearts can be open for your Joy. Lord, we love you and appreciate all the wonderful people who have been Prayer Warriors for us. We know that you provided them when we needed them and we pray that we can be there for them in their time of need. We ask these things in Your Holy Name. Amen

Sandra M. Updike - Leland Prayer Warrior

Certainly I will keep you in my prayers! Glory to God for this faithful daughter. Lord, may Barbara receive your healing touch, flourish in your light and love and power, thus obliterating this physical attack of the adversary. Lord, you have said that Jesus died to redeem us from the powers of sin and darkness. Barbara takes you at Your Word, the "c" cells are destroyed, and the healthy cells that you created to function perfectly in her body, are the only ones that will multiply, and then those healthy cells will operate as you designed them to operate. We thank you, Father God, for your promise of wholeness, deliverance, and healing, nothing missing, nothing broken. You are not a man that you should lie, and so we trust You for the touch of your miracle-working hand upon Barbara's body, mind, and emotions. So be it. Barbara, I will pray for you daily!
Much Love, Sandra

MORNING THOUGHTS OF PINK

On Joyce Meyer this morning and Dr. John Maxwell was there with her and they were talking about the Gift of Encouragement. Joyce referenced Romans 12:

  • 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
  • 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
  • 3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
  • 4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
  • 5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
  • 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
  • 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
  • 8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
  • 9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
  • 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
  • 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
  • 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
  • 13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
  • 14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
  • 15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
  • 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
  • 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
  • 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
  • 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
  • 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
  • 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

This message meant so much to me. Encouragement is one of my favorite things. I always try to find something good in everyone I meet. Even if it is someone who doesn't like me, they always have good qualities, they just are not drawn to mine. There are times in my life that I have done things unintentionally and asked forgiveness when I realized it. Sometimes that person has not forgiven me. I have done my part and God has forgiven me so whatever is keeping them from realizing the truth, is on them.

As a Christian, when others ask me for forgiveness, I do what God has asked, I forgive them and love them anyway. I speak encouragement to them on every occasion. It doesn't mean that I forget completely, God has given us the Gift of Decernment and we are to learn from our mistakes so that we don't go there again.

One of the things that I learned through my research was that Sugar creates free radicals, oxidation; Sugar feeds cancer. This is what I have determined from my study this past weekend. I am avoiding sugar from this point.

My appointment with the Oncologist, Dr. McKenna, at the Riverside Cancer Treatment Center was at 12:30 p.m. Ray went with me and as Dr. McKenna explained everything, we felt our hearts lift. The doctor said that I was at Stage I and T1-B, which is great. I had ductal and lobular cancer. There are microscopic traces in the lymph nodes. They are having more extensive tests of the tissue taken in the surgery but his opinion was that I would probably not need any more surgery or treatment. I will go back to see him in two weeks for the final decision. He said I have an 87% chance of living ten more years (their statistics don't go past 70 years of age). I felt intense relief. There is still the appointment with the Radiologist, Dr. Layzer, on Wednesday when we will learn his conclusions.

PRAISE GOD! Thank you Lord, Thank You to all of those who have been my Prayer Warriors. It is not quite done, so keep up your prayers and good thoughts. Love to all.

SUNDAY PRAISE GOD PINK

Sunday morning was awesome. It started quietly with me listening to Dr. Charles F. Stanley. He had such an awesome message:

The Pathway of Faith - "Even in troubling times, followers of Jesus Christ can choose to walk in faith rather than in fear. Our relationship with the Lord gives us the ability to face hardship with confidence in His provision and care. As God’s children, we can rest in the Father’s promise that He will supply all we need."

Scripture: Isaiah 41:8-13 - 8"But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, Descendant of Abraham My friend, 9You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its remotest parts And said to you, 'You are My servant, I have chosen you and not rejected you. 10'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' 11"Behold, all those who are angered at you will be shamed and dishonored; Those who contend with you will be as nothing and will perish. 12"You will seek those who quarrel with you, but will not find them, Those who war with you will be as nothing and non-existent. 13"For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, 'Do not fear, I will help you.'

Fear does not fit who we are as children of God.

The Lord says, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isa. 41:10).

A fearful spirit is not from God (2 Tim. 1:7). If anxiety prevents you from resting at night or hinders your obedience, you are not demonstrating trust in the Lord. Genuine faith and overwhelming fear are incompatible.

Ray got up and we went to church at Ft. Barnwell Baptist Church. While we were in assembly, we were reading the bulletin. I had noticed the beautiful flowers on the alter as soon as we came in.
In the bulletin was a notice. "The flowers today were given by Jesse, Rhonda, Garrett, and Taylor in honor of Rhonda's great mom, Mrs. Barbara Duke." Talk about the tears coming down. I was really surprised and moved. I have such a wonderful family. (The picture is of me, Taylor, Garret, and the beautiful flowers they gave me in my house in NC after church.)

Anyway, I went looking in the 3-5 year Sunday School class and she wasn't there yet. A few Hispanic children were there waiting for her so I sat and talked with them. Rhonda was running late and came in with little bags of cereal for each child. She is so concerned that they have not eaten breakfast. She is so patient with them and they were all so sweet.

The Pastor, Dr. George L Tumlin, gave a powerful sermon as he always does. He is a By-the-Book (Bible) kind of guy.

After church we packed up and drove home to VA. I just didn't make it to the Deacon's meeting. I really wanted to, but it was just too late and I was so exhausted.

The Oncologist is tomorrow. Dr. McKenna at the Riverside Cancer Center. Pray for me! I am drinking a half bottle of XanGo a day and maybe the Lord will use that to help heal me.

SHOPPING PINK

We were late getting up Saturday and went and picked up Rhonda, Jesse, Garrett, & Taylor about noon. We went to Greenville and Sam's Club. It is such a nice warehouse store. They were impressed because of all the renovations since the last time they went. We went around and had all the snacks. It was really a lot of fun for this Nana. I take a lot of pleasure in small things when they involve my children and grandchildren. I thank God for them every day.

We took our goodies home and then Rhonda and I did something we hardly ever do. Just the two of us went to town. We went to the Beauty World in Kinston. We had so much fun. Who ever thought that looking at wigs could be so much fun.

The two ladies they had working with wigs were so much fun and they were really Godly women. The music there was lively and they talked about going to the beach and learning to shag and line-dance. I gave them a few pointers since I used to line-dance a lot.

It is great exercise and loads of fun. Rhonda insisted on buying me a wig, but we couldn't find one my color. She was afraid if I do chemo, I will need a wig and won't have one. Let me know what you think of the new me. Hopefully, I won't have to use it.

Saturday night, my son Jeff and his friend, Sharon came over and brought pizza for all. We had a grand time and I had bought pound cake, strawberries, and cool whip. It was a celebration of Rhonda's birthday on Feb 18 and Jeff's birthday on Feb 20 because we couldn't coordinate a closer date. They looked at the pictures I had been working on and seemed to really like them. I just love our little house in NC. It is so comfortable and quiet there. Ray and I really made a good investment in that property.

I went to bed soon after everyone left. I was pretty tired from the activites of the day. It was a fun day. I think the Lord wants us to have more Joy and Fun in our lives. The Lord wrapped me in His arms and kept me calm.

TRAVELING PINK

We decided to go to NC for the weekend and finally got away from the house at nearly 4:00 p.m. I have a laptop and while we were driving, I researched the National Institute of Health Website to figure out what questions to ask the Oncologist on Tuesday. The information provided on this site is comprehensive although clearly written above eighth-grade level that most newspapers and magazines are written. I have found over the years I have been on the Internet, most people write at a much higher level than what is considered the norm. When we finally got tired of trying to figure out all the medical terms, we went to WebMD. That is more like it. We understood it so much better.

I was beginning to formulate questions in my mind. By the time we arrived in Ft. Barnwell, my voice was hoarse from reading to Ray for 3 hours. We certainly learned a lot. I don't know why I hadn't looked it up before. My sister, Jan, said I was in denial. And, I guess we all know in cases like these, denial is not a river in Egypt.

We got to Ft. Barnwell about 8 p.m. Rhonda came over with Taylor in her new tap dance costume. What a cutie! I brought the children books I bought from FBCNN library. Rhonda is a kindergarten assistant and she has the twins reading on a second and third grade level. I wanted to have books there for them to read for me.

I was a little wound up and stayed up until almost 2 a.m. It gave me a chance to meditate and get my thoughts together and talk with God. He is so Good, All the Time!. He will always have the last word. His word for me was to rest in Him. When I finally got in the bed, I slept very well. PRAISE THE LORD!

February 8, 2009
Beverly Parker sent me an email to let me know about Ruby and how she is progressing and feels comfortable staying by herself at night now that Regina from SC has left. She has tel #'s to call and her neighbors to call on if she needs something. Nancy has scheduled folks to come in 10-12 and 12-2 just like she did when Regina was here each day thru next Saturday. She also wanted me to know that if I find that I need someone to sit with me if Ray has to be away, to call her and she will work out folks to do that for me. She is so sweet. She works tirelessly for the church and its’ ministry. We are really fortunate to have her with us and thank the Lord constantly for her loving care.

PITY PARTY PINK!

Today's visit to the doctor was not too good. There is more cancer in the lymph nodes. Now I have to really read all about breast cancer. I told him if there has to be more surgery, it won't be at Mary Immaculate even if I have to change surgeons. It was one of the worst experiences of my life; I have had 10 surgeries over my lifetime and that experience was on of the worst.
Not too happy with insurance either. Making you have surgery like a drive-by shooting. Check-in, wait hours, have surgery, out the door. Don't they realize that when women have surgery, they have to go home and cook dinner? I was lucky, all I had to do was warm up the soup I cooked the day before. I spent all weekend cleaning so my husband wouldn't have to wait on me.
Today, I want to be waited on. Ray had to go out and I said "How about a Extra-Mocha Cappucino from WAWA?" So, that is probably what I am having for dinner. LOL! Actually, I had him take a steak out of the freezer and I will slice it thin and saute with mushrooms and onions. It will be awesome. He is diabetic and needs less carbs.

Ray went to the doctor with me. He is so very good to me and held me while I cried. I don't cry often anymore, so this is a new emotion with him. I just have so much to do. When I retired, I made up my mind to clean out this house. Well, it has been 4 months, and you can't tell how much I have done, but if you look in the closets you might. I have thrown away so much stuff. Paper clones itself at night, I am sure of it. Great for recycle. I have decided that every piece of mail has to be dealt with when it comes through the door. Pay the bill, cut the coupon, read the card; throw out the envelope, file the bill, file coupons, put cards in scrapbook. My goal is not to have any paper left out to multiply at night.

Family can be the best support, if you let them. When I got home from the doctor today, I called my older brother, Sonny. I told him the doctor's conclusion and asked him to go and talk with my mother. I love her so much and I just didn't want her to be by herself when she heard the news. They called me together on his cell and we spoke on the speaker phone. My mother is so dear and I thank God every day that she is where she is because I know that of all of us, Sonny will always be there for her. We talked for a while and decided we would talk later. I tried to sound upbeat, but sometimes it is hard. I will not speak the "c" word into my life (except to expell it!).

My Sister Linda called from Texas yesterday. We talked almost an hour. It was so good to connect with her. I haven't seen her in a long time. We email junk to each other, but our children have grown up without even knowing each others names. That is so sad. We really need to stay connected with our family and not wait until someone gets sick (or dies) to let them know how much you love them.

Friends are so supportive. I found out today that Ray Wilson has serious health issues. Can you believe that he brought Jim and Juanita to pray for me and never mentioned that he needed prayer? Isn't that just like him? I have had almost 20 cards; it feels like Christmas! And, I don't think that I have talked on the phone so much in the past 10 years. It is a lovely feeling to know how much people care. In the past couple of days I have spoken to Ann Glover, Betty Wood, Judy Gatlin, Betty Elofson, Jean Darnell, Juanita Wilson, and Mary Lynch. They are so wonderful, I appreciate their calls so much. I have emails from Kari Gallagher, Betty Wood, and Debbie Webb.

This was on TBN tonight and they said it was on YOUTUBE. Please listen. You will be so blessed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMF_24cQqT0

Just pray with me today. I love you all and God loves you too! If you would like prayer, let me know and I will add you to my prayer list.

NOT TOO PINK TODAY!

I guess everyone who goes through this has a pity party sometimes. Today was my pity party. I think it was because I was trying to quit the pain medication. Not happening yet. I stuck it out for a while and then realized that the pain was just getting worse. Pain meds are supposed to help keep the pain away, I have always had a fear of getting hooked on them. I can tell you now, take before the pain gets bad.

It was an interesting day watching TV. Oprah was a little boring this afternoon, so I watched "The Doctors." It was a pretty good show. They were talking about cancer near the end of the show and spoke to the fact that most studies say that you need to have at least 4 servings of fruit a day to help keep cancer away. This is so neat. Since I have been with XanGo, I have tried to take it religiously. I take the required 3 ounces a day. Each ounce is 5 servings of fruit, so that means that I am getting 15 servings of fruit a day. Since XanGo is almost pure Mangosteen fruit juice, I am so lucky that I am actually distributing it and getting the best benefits wholesale. Actually, one of the best benefits of the juice is that I have not had a sinus infection or a cold for over a year and a half. The lump was small and I found it because being a health nut, I keep an eye out for those things.

One of the wonderful things about the company is the new skin care (Glimpse). Now I have skin care that is totally non-toxic. There is a demonstration that we can do if we choose. A distributor in Arizona put each of the 4-steps of the skin care on one side of a section of an apple. After a half hour, the untreated side oxidized and turned brown, the Glimpse side was still like newly cut. She then ate the apple. Absolutely no harmful effects. You will never see a "Call poison control if ingested" on a Glimpse product. It is so natural you can put it on a baby's skin with a lot more safety than baby oil (made from petroleum products). I am so thankful that we have such wonderful scientist in the company who developed it using cold fusion, thus saving all the healing properties of the mangosteen fruit.

My friends who are also in XanGo have also been so supportive of my PINK Journey. It is a great company with some great people. There are so many wonderful people with amazing stories. If anyone would like to see some of their testimonies, please let me know.

Network Marketing is fun most of the time. There are some people out there who would prefer think you are not worth listening to. It takes a little time for things to come together, and it takes a lot of consistency and hard work. It is a pity that sometime that they can't seem to be supportive without being so negative that it makes you feel unworthy of their time. I completely promise to be supportive of whatever people want to do unless it is something that will hurt them. People that you think are friends suddenly take you off their speed dial or avoid your calls. Your friends and family cannot understand how wonderful your new business is, how exciting it is, and all you want to do is tell everyone how great your product is. I am in this to help others, not just for myself.

I retired from a job that was stressful for me. It wasn't stressful because I didn't like it; it was stressful because I didn't feel like I was living up to my full potential. I really dislike working for someone else and wanted something for my own. And, let me tell you if anyone gets on a management kick with me, I will be doing something else tomorrow. I have tried some other network marketing ideas. I still am connected to Mary Kay because I like their make up, even though I am using the new skin care, I have a tremendous respect for Mary Kay and all she stood for and feel privileged to be on her team (even if in a minor way).

Ray and I joined the National Companies and I love them too. I will not quit because it is a life-time committment to saving money. If I choose to make money, that option is there too. So, no matter what anybody says, I am having a wonderful time doing what I want to do. The money is not very important, we have enough to live comfortably, but we are happy with our lives.
Ray has a good business and it is doing well even in this down economy. We are happy together, God has been so good to us. We have both had health issues, but we are good now. We are waiting on my results Thursday, but no matter what happens, we did it our way.

It all boils down to, are you happy and passionate about what you are doing? If you would like to find out more, call me at 757-591-2363. We have enough postive attitude to go around and our businesses will grow no matter what.
