H - Happy Boomers A to Z Blogging Challenge (PR)

              No matter what our kids and the new generation think about us,
 WE ARE AWESOME !!!

Our Lives are LIVING PROOF !!!

To Those of Us Born 1925 - 1970 :

At the end of this email is a quote of the month by Jay Leno. If you don't read anything else, please read what he said.
Very well stated, Mr. Leno.

 TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED
 THE 1930s, '40s, '50s, '60s and '70s!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who may have smoked
and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a
can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then, after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies
in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets,
and, when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps, not helmets, on our heads.
As infants and children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster
seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes..

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle,
and no one actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter, and bacon.
 We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar.
And we weren't overweight.
WHY?
Because we were always outside playing...that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day,
as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OKAY.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out
of scraps and then ride them down the hill,
only to find out we forgot the brakes..
After running into the bushes a few times,
we learned to solve the problem..

We did not have Play Stations, Nintendos and X-boxes.
There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable,
no video movies or DVDs, no surround-sound or CDs,
 no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.

WE HAD FRIENDS
and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth,
 and there were no lawsuits from those accidents.
We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping-pong paddles,
or just a bare hand, and no one would call child services to report abuse.
We ate worms, and mud pies made from dirt,
and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games
with sticks and tennis balls, and although we were told it would
happen--we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door
or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers,
problem solvers, and inventors ever.
The past 50 to 85 years have seen an explosion of innovation and new ideas..
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility,
and we learned how to deal with it all.

If YOU are one of those born between 1925-1970, CONGRATULATIONS!
 You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow
up as kids before the lawyers and the government regulated
so much of our lives  for our own good.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids, so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?
~~~~~~~
The quote of the month - by Jay Leno:
"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the
threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time
to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"
WE ARE AWESOME!
G - Gratitude Pink A to Z Blogging Challenge (PR)
Gratitude
W e have so much to be grateful for. When you look around our country and see all the beautiful things we have.
I am grateful for all the amazing people in my life. I am even grateful for the ones that are not so nice. We need them to have a guideline of where not to go, what not to do, what not to say, how not to dress, etc.
I am grateful for my family which seems to be growing exponentially (isn't spell-check nice?).
I am grateful for my health. Even with all my problems, I am for fortunate that over half of the world's people. I may be sick, but I have healthcare.
I am grateful for all the wonderful foods I have access to as an American. I can go to a grocery and pick out almost whatever I want and they sell it to me. I do not have to worry about whether the shelves are stocked or not.
I am grateful for transportation. I even have an extra car if mine has to go in to be fixed. I do not have to get put on a list to purchase a car, I can just buy one.
I am grateful that I can worship like I want to. If someone does not believe as I do, I am grateful that I do not have to defend my faith.
I am grateful that I have so much to be thankful for.
Here is a prayer or poem,  depends on how you look at it.
Be Thankful
Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don’t know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you’re tired and weary
Because it means you’ve made a difference.
It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.
GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.       ~ Author Unknown
F- Fibromyalgia Pink - A to Z Blogging Challenge (PR)
Fibromyalgia  (Link to Fibromyalgia Assessment on WebMD)
What is next? Now I have Fibromyalgia. That is just great. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteo-Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Shingles, Peripheral Artery Disease, and a floater in my left eye. I have had 16 surgeries and Breast Cancer in my lifetime. What is next?
I could be the poster child for the Baby Boomer Generation. The problem is for me, I do not look sick at all. Everything that is going on is considered an "invisible" illness. There are many people out there with similar problems. If someone looks fine, we assume they can do the things that we can do. Looks can be deceiving.
On the other hand, just because someone is visibly handicapped, does not mean that they are unable to do most of the things that you can do, and they want to. Anyway, I guess that I am saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover."
Be kind to others, no matter what, you don't know what kind of trouble they are going through.
E - Ethics - A to Z Blogging Challenge (PR) Pink
Ethics Definition (Webster's Dictionary): rules of behavior based on ideas about what is morally good and bad
ethics: an area of study that deals with ideas about what is good and bad behavior : a branch of philosophy dealing with what is morally right or wrong : a belief that something is very important
Protestant ethics: noun: an ethic that stresses the virtue of hard work, thrift, and self-discipline.
Ethics seem to be taking a real hit in today's world. If you listen to the news or read news articles.Here on Social Media, things can be a little iffy. Someone sends you to a website where you can purchase an e-book. You are able to put your name on it and send it out to others or sell it as if you wrote it. What is wrong with people? Do they even realize that plagiarism is not ethical?
Your day is inundated with people calling to ask for money or trying to sell you something that you do not want or do not need. Almost every day, one of the local television stations has one of there teams interviewing people who have been scammed.
What is this thing about people in Nigeria who tell you they have money, but need you to claim it for them, etc. . . . ? They end up scamming elderly or mentally challenged people. Some people have invested their whole retirement that they have saved up 40 or 50 years for. Now all their money is gone to some bank account belonging to a so-called Prince/Princess in the Cayman Islands.
I was fortunate that I worked for the US Government. They have very ethical practices and you even had to sign a paper swearing to defend and support the United States, so help you God. (That was 40 years ago) We were expected to work at our jobs with the highest moral standard. I know, you are going to say something about government employees. They have cut the number of employees so much in the past few years, that there are no slackers anymore. It is much easier for a government employee to get fired than it used to be.
Think of it this way. If someone finds out that you lied or cheated them in some way, how can you expect them to believe you the next time something important comes up. How are you going to get that trust back? Will you ever get that trust back? Maybe, but in a lot of cases people are like me. They will say it is okay, but within a few weeks, you are no longer in their circle of friends. People do not have time for deceit.
Protect your Brand! Be the person or company that is chosen because your reputation is one of your most important tools. Be the person that people look up to and want to work with you. Say what you do and do what you say!
Hope you are having a wonderful day!
D - Dementia - A to Z Blogging Challenge Pink
Is your parent, spouse, or a friend exhibiting strange behavior? Do they seem to be forgetting things that have always been important to them? Are the missing appointments, club meetings, arriving late to work a lot. Do they forget birthdays and anniversaries that they have felt were important in the past? Are their bills being paid on time?
Every should pay close attention to their aging parents. After all, if they worked hard all their life to provide for their retirement, we should not let crooks bilk them out of their future. We could end up paying the price for our indifference. I would say that at the first sign of a problem, you should step in and even get counselling with an estate planner or someone who knows the law. If we had been paying closer attention, we would have noticed things that were unusual, before they got out of hand.
Take care of your parents, as they once took care of you. Even if you thought they didn't take care of you very well, step up to the plate to make sure that crooks are not stalking them. There are people out there who are making hundreds of phone calls each day, just looking for that person who may not be "quite right." They know about your parents mental acuity before you do.
Purchasing lots of things on the computer, on the TV (HSN), could be one of the first indications that something is going on. If when visiting your parents home and see "As Seen on TV" merchandise all over the place, some still in the boxes and not even opened. Check with their neighbors and see if UPS or FEDEX trucks are constantly delivering to their house.
Frequently falling, mismanaging money, or staring into space? Find out if you should be concerned about Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia. Not being able to recognize loved ones is a known effect of Alzheimer's, but other signs of dementia are less obvious.
If you find a lot of things are not going well, ask to be put on the list so you can talk to their doctor. If the doctor says it is necessary, consult a lawyer about taking over to keep them out of trouble.
It is not only their future, but yours too. Poor choices on their part because of dementia can also hurt your finances in the future as you struggle to take care of them. Be observant, loving, and concerned. They are your parents, don't let them be hurt by others. Stand up and take a stand!
B - Blogging for Breast Cancer - A to Z Challenge (PR)
Someone asked me once why would I want to put myself out there for everyone to see that I had Breast Cancer.
  • I have nothing to hide.
  • If something I went through helps someone else, I guess I am paying it forward.
We all have obstacles to overcome, but it is so much easier if you have the support of those you love.
When you find out you have breast cancer, your first reaction is "Why Me?" and maybe a few tears. Then you start to share with your friends and family and you see how much you are loved. Stress is much easier managed when you have friends to share with and build up and encourage you.
All things are possible with God! You may not believe in God, but if you do, He will be there for you. Talk (pray) to Him a lot. Of course, he knows what we want and need, but He wants us to ask for it. He is our Father. He loves us and wants the best for us. Sometimes what is best for us in our eyes is not His plan. Be still, meditate on Him, He will speak to you.
I have added one of my Social Media Girlfriends, Marie Walker Riddle to my prayer list, and be sure, God will be hearing from me each day.
"I would rather live my life as if there was a God and die to find out there isn't, than to live my life like there was no God and die to find out there is."    - Albert Camus
So everyone have a lovely day, and remember someone who needs your prayers and encouragement today.
