Ethics Definition (Webster's Dictionary): rules of behavior based on ideas about what is morally good and bad

ethics: an area of study that deals with ideas about what is good and bad behavior : a branch of philosophy dealing with what is morally right or wrong : a belief that something is very important

Protestant ethics: noun: an ethic that stresses the virtue of hard work, thrift, and self-discipline.

Ethics seem to be taking a real hit in today's world. If you listen to the news or read news articles.Here on Social Media, things can be a little iffy. Someone sends you to a website where you can purchase an e-book. You are able to put your name on it and send it out to others or sell it as if you wrote it. What is wrong with people? Do they even realize that plagiarism is not ethical?

Your day is inundated with people calling to ask for money or trying to sell you something that you do not want or do not need. Almost every day, one of the local television stations has one of there teams interviewing people who have been scammed. 

What is this thing about people in Nigeria who tell you they have money, but need you to claim it for them, etc. . . . ? They end up scamming elderly or mentally challenged people. Some people have invested their whole retirement that they have saved up 40 or 50 years for. Now all their money is gone to some bank account belonging to a so-called Prince/Princess in the Cayman Islands.

I was fortunate that I worked for the US Government. They have very ethical practices and you even had to sign a paper swearing to defend and support the United States, so help you God. (That was 40 years ago) We were expected to work at our jobs with the highest moral standard. I know, you are going to say something about government employees. They have cut the number of employees so much in the past few years, that there are no slackers anymore. It is much easier for a government employee to get fired than it used to be. 

Think of it this way. If someone finds out that you lied or cheated them in some way, how can you expect them to believe you the next time something important comes up. How are you going to get that trust back? Will you ever get that trust back? Maybe, but in a lot of cases people are like me. They will say it is okay, but within a few weeks, you are no longer in their circle of friends. People do not have time for deceit.

Protect your Brand! Be the person or company that is chosen because your reputation is one of your most important tools. Be the person that people look up to and want to work with you. Say what you do and do what you say!
